Ashes of Hope started as a one person project after the 2018 wild昀椀res
which devastated Southern California, displacing thousands of people
and destroying many structures.
Days after the wild昀椀re, I spent 6 months visiting every location affected
by the 昀椀res, collecting ashes and geolocations which would ultimately
be transformed into handmade black acrylic paint, and exactly as the
wild昀椀res did, the project grew fast to become a full scale art event with
the participation of over 60 California artists, celebrities, dozens of
sponsors and volunteers. With the unique brand of paint called AOH, and
used by each artist, the proceeds of the event were entirely used for the
bene昀椀t of the victims of this large-scale disaster.
The California Locos, having ties to many 昀椀re victims and the territory of
the 昀椀re in Malibu were a powerful and willing addition to the event. This
beautiful partnership forged in LA grew stronger as time went on, with
many more possibilities for collaborations to come.
