Renaissance & Rebellion - Flipbook - Page 132
We started the exhibit with our original core group of five “California Locos” and
expand honorary membership to include six other L.A. artists. They all had to meet the
strict criteria for selection to be included in the California Masters Show. First, you had
to be that artist that lives the lifestyle (hotrodder, graffiti writer, photographer, musician,
etc). Second, you had to be a working professional artist still creating in the studio. Third,
you had to be world famous through social media, by having a large following. Fourth
and most important, your fame has to be influential. The most important artists are
the influential ones, their art is admired and copied by many artist and their style goes
worldwide and becomes it’s own art movement. Those added and profound artists are
Mister Cartoon, Shepard Fairey, Estevan Oriol, Retna and OG Slick. Every art scene is
led by an originator, and so we honor these influential “Masters” for their life dedication
as true creators, real pioneers that are now internationally recognized for their work.
The exhibition of CALIFORNIA LOCOS: SOCAL ORIGINALS, MASTERS OF
STYLE, is presented as a collective that takes leadership of our own destiny for the art we
create, for our shared voice that articulates the “New Realism” taking place, and stand
proud with our multimedia multicultural heritage. “We claim it and embrace it!”
